How to start a workout on Apple Watch with Siri
Quick answer
Raise your wrist and say "Hey Siri, start an outdoor run." The Workout app begins tracking that workout type immediately. Swap in any type — walk, cycle, HIIT, swim.
Say this
“Hey Siri, start an outdoor run”
How it works
- 01Name the workout type: run, walk, cycle, swim, HIIT, and more.
- 02Siri opens the Workout app and starts tracking.
- 03Say "pause my workout" or "end my workout" to control it.
- 04Ask "how far have I gone?" mid-session for a quick check.

If Siri doesn't get it
If Siri doesn't respond on your Watch, check that "Hey Siri" / "Listen for Siri" is enabled in the Watch's Settings > Siri, and that the Watch isn't in a low-power or silent state that blocks listening.
