Have Siri read a book aloud

Quick answer

For an ebook without an audio version, turn on Speak Screen in Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content, open the book, and say "speak screen" or swipe down with two fingers. Your iPhone reads the page aloud with controls to pause and adjust speed. It's synthesized speech, not narration.

Say this

Speak screen

How it works

  1. 01Turn on Speak Screen in Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content
  2. 02Open the book in the Books app
  3. 03Say "speak screen" or swipe down with two fingers

If Siri doesn't get it

Speak Screen reads on-screen text with a synthetic voice and doesn't auto-turn pages in every app. For professional narration, look for an Apple Books audiobook.
